PANTRY SWAPS

PANTRY SWAPS

Leading a healthier lifestyle isn’t achieved in an instant. Usually, the most sustainable way to reach your goals is slowly but surely rather than in one fell swoop. A good place to start is your pantry. You can swap current product choices with healthier and easily available ones. Here are some to consider:

Honey or coconut sap instead of pancake syrup

Pancake syrups often contain high fructose corn syrup, which is highly processed and inflammatory. Honey and coconut sap are natural sugars which contain more micronutrients.

Coconut sugar instead of white sugar

White sugar is just that, sugar. Because it is so refined, it contains no minerals or micronutrients. Coco sugar provides sweetness (those calories are still there, so it should also be consumed in moderation) but it contains far greater amounts of potassium, magnesium, zinc and iron.

Brown rice pasta instead of wheat pasta

If you have gluten sensitivities, it’s best to stay away from wheat pasta (and wheat products) but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a good bowl of noodles. Brown rice pasta is gluten free, and contains more fiber and protein.

Plant based milk instead of dairy milk

Many people have dairy milk intolerances while environmentalists are wary of the greenhouse gases from dairy milk production systems. Enter plant based milks. These days we are spoiled for choice. There are many options (almond, cashew, soy, coconut, rice, oat to name a few) that can suit our individual needs.

Admittedly, some of these swaps might mean a higher grocery bill but try out what works for you and your family. Folks often find that feeling healthier and more energetic is well worth it.
